What to Bring to the Driver Licensing Office
Whether you are a new rider, a rider from another jurisdiction, or a person taking a
re-examination, you need to arrive at the driver licensing office prepared.
What to bring to the tests
Motorcycle Knowledge Test and Vision Screening
To take a motorcycle knowledge test, bring:
- Primary and secondary identification
- A custodial parent or legal guardian if you are under 19
- The fee for the knowledge test
- The fee for the Class 7L photo license, if you haven't obtained this previously
- Your current driver's licence, if you have one
- Glasses or contact lenses if you require them to ride
Motorcycle Skills Test (MST)
To take the motorcycle skills test, bring:
- Primary and secondary identification
- Your Class 8L or Class 6L licence
- Your supervisor
- A safe, street-legal motorcycle with registration and insurance papers
- Glasses or contact lenses if you require them to ride
Class 8 or Class 6 Road Test
To take a road test, bring:
- Primary and secondary identification
- Your current driver's licence
- A motorcycle that is safe and appropriate for the road test, with registration and insurance papers
- The fees for the road test and photo licence
- Glasses or contact lenses if you require them to ride
And for a Class 8 road test, also bring:
- Your Declaration of Completion, if you have successfully completed an ICBC-approved rider education course
Identification (ID)
When you apply for or renew a B.C. driver's licence, you must bring in two pieces of identification, one primary and one secondary:
Primary identification
- Birth Certificate
- Canadian Citizenship Identification
- Canada Identity Card
- Certain documents issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Student or Work Visa;
Record of Landing; Minister's, Visitor's, Refugee's or Returning Resident Permit
Secondary identification
- Passport
- Canadian or U.S. driver's licence
- B.C. Identification card (new digital style only)
- Naturalization certificate
- Canadian Forces identification
- Police identification
- Foreign Affairs Canada or consular identification
- Other (certain additional documented proof of identity may be accepted if you have no other secondary identification)
If you are renewing an existing driver's licence, your current driver's licence
together with a signed credit card will, in most cases, meet the identification requirements
